FANCY COCKTAIL PARTY

The holiday season brings many things; time with family and friends, wonderful food and parties galore! We love any kind of party and we certainly don’t discriminate when it comes to getting a chance to get together, but getting a chance to dress up always makes a party special!

With fancy dresses and dressed up husbands in mind, we decided to throw a fancy cocktail party! What makes a cocktail party “fancy” exactly? We are sure it's different for everyone, but here on Jasmine we decided it was three signature cocktails, a table full of appetizers and beautiful Christmas décor. (Fancy dresses and suits also of course)!

SIGNATURE DRINKS

We decided to have 3 signature drinks and prepared all of them right before the party started. We did this for 2 reasons, 1- to have our drink bar filled up and beautiful with the different drinks in separate glassware. It really was amazing to see as you walked in! 2- So each guest could see the different drinks before deciding what they wanted (or deciding which on they wanted to start with and trying them all)!

TIP- pre-making the drinks also helps you as the host, that way when your guests arrive, you're not constantly making drinks for the first 30 mins! Everything is ready to go, which means you can enjoy your party from the start!

CHOCOLATE PEPPERMINT MARTINI (makes 2 drinks)

This sweet cocktail is perfect for the holidays, between the peppermint and the creamy chocolate, who could turn this away? The recipe we used came from Amandascookin and was adjusted slightly. It is similar to a Chocolate Martini but with a peppermint twist - thanks to Peppermint Vodka. The chocolate peppermint rim makes this drink look really fancy, plus it tastes delicious!

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 oz crème de cocoa

  • 3 oz peppermint vodka

  • 5 oz half and half or light cream

  • 1 tsp cocoa powder

  • 2 oz chocolate bark

  • 1 candy cane- smashed

DIRECTIONS

  • Melt the chocolate bark in a microwave safe bowl (large enough to dip a martini glass into)

  • Crush up a candy cane (we put it in a closed sandwich bag and used a roller to smash it) once it is smashed into tiny pieces, put the candy cane on a plate.

  • Take the Martini glass and turn it upside down, dip the rim in the melted chocolate, coat it enough that candy pieces can stick to it, but not too much that it drips down the rim. Right after you dip the glass in chocolate take the rim and dip it in the candy cane, keep moving it around until the rim is coated, then place off to the side so the chocolate can harden.

  • While the rim is drying place the rest of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker that is filled with ice… shake shake shake!

  • Pour the cocktail into your martini glass and ENJOY!

WINTER WHITE COSMO

If you love a Cosmo, you need to try this Winter White Cosmo! It is amazing, and was for sure the crowd favorite at the Fancy Cocktail Party! We first fell in love with this cocktail when we tried it at the restaurant BoneFish Grill. So, we stalked the internet and found out what the ingredients were and created our own version of it! Just as delicious as the original if you ask us (we can’t be sure it's not because we couldn’t find the exact ratios, but we think we’re close! Either way… definitely give this cocktail a try!

INGREDIENTS (Makes 2 drinks)

  • 2 oz Tito’s Vodka

  • 1 oz Cointreau

  • 1 oz St Germain Elderflower liqueur

  • 2 oz white cranberry juice

  • ½ of a lime

DIRECTIONS

  • Fill your cocktail shaker with ice

  • Pour all ingredients into the cocktail shaker and SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE

  • Pour the cocktail into your martini glass and top with cranberries and enjoy!

BLACKBERRY CHAMPAGNE COCKTAIL

Nothing says fancy quite like a glass of champagne! For our fancy cocktail party, we wanted to take it up a notch and some blackberry simple syrup and sprigs of rosemary did the trick! We found the recipe here. This drink was delicious, definitely a must try if you’re feeling fancy!

INGREDIENTS

  • Blackberry simple syrup (1/2 cup sugar, ½ cup water, 1 cup of blackberries: Directions below)

  • A bottle of champagne, we suggest picking a dryer bottle since you are adding simple syrup

  • Fresh Rosemary Sprigs

BLACKBERRY SIMPLE SYRUP DIRECTIONS

  • Put sugar, water and fresh blackberries into a small pot and place over low heat

  • Let it cook while stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves

  • Strain out the blackberries and pour the simple syrup into a jar and let cool (we suggest a jar with a lid so you can store the leftovers in the fridge.

DIRECTIONS

  • Pour a small about of simple syrup into the bottom of the champagne flute (about 2-3 tablespoons, doesn’t need to be exact)

  • Top with Champagne

  • Garnish with a Rosemary sprig (you could also use some of the cooked blackberries as garnish for a fun touch)

  • Toast your friends and enjoy!

TIP- even when providing signature drinks, it's always a good idea to provide your guests with other options! We had a bar cart filled with a variety of liquors and mixers and a tub full of beer!

When throwing a cocktail party, we love having food that is easy to graze on, stuff you can eat right away but if you’ve had a few champagne cocktails, it's easy to eat a couple hours into the party! Appetizers immediately came to mind, this party wasn’t starting until 7, so most people have more than likely eaten dinner, so just some light food to pick on would work perfect! We also cheated and bought some from Wegman's catering section! This took away a lot of stress when you’re trying to pull a party together with a lot of different foods and drinks.

APPETIZER MENU

  • Sushi platter (Thank you , Wegmans)

  • Tray of pinwheels (also Wegmans!)

  • Bacon wrapped Kielbasa

  • Charcuterie board

  • Tortilla chips with salsa and guacamole

  • Goat cheese and pickled beets toast

  • Pigs in a blanket

  • Tacos and bagel bites (this tray was supposed to be a joke, cleary these aren’t fancy foods, but the joke was on us as those were finished first hahaha)

Now depending on your crowd and how fancy they really are, will determine what you do for the rest of your party. Most fancy cocktail parties would be a mingling party, which is lovely and it’s always so great to catch up with friends. But remember how I mentioned our friends went straight for the bagel bites and tacos… hahaha here on Jasmine we like to be a little fancy, but mostly were just down for a good time!

We mingled and listened to Christmas music for the first hour or so, then we turned on the country and brought out the drinking games (This was an adult only party, we rarely have those, so we took advantage!)

However, you decide to celebrate the holiday season, whether you throw a fancy cocktail party and dress up, or wear sweatpants and drink champagne! We hope you get a chance to spend time with your friends and family and cherish all of the memories you're making!

Cheers!
