It's National Kite Month! Did you even know there was such a thing?! If you are looking for a quick and easy way to feel like a kid again...get outside and fly a kite! No lie, it was so much fun and made us just forget about all the things for that moment in time! The giddy feeling of seeing something so effortlessly floating in the air, so whimsical and free, no worries in the world. Something so simple, can be so magical.

We are definitely not the best kite fliers on the block, however one of our gents definitely has some kite skills.

"Every year in April, kite lovers across the states celebrate the history and the future of the world’s favorite pastime by letting their kites fly. It is a month to celebrate the joy and happiness that comes from letting out the line, letting your kite catch the wind, and letting that kite soar high into the sky."

"April was chosen as National Kite Month because it was the month that perfectly symbolized hope, potential, and joy. As the first month in Spring, it is when most kite fliers are starting to bring their kites out of the closet and prepare for a summer on the beach. It is the month that while we spring clean and dust off the cobwebs, we can look fondly back on the memories of the year before while looking towards a bright future. April is also the month that we see the last of the snow giving way to green lawns, a month that we are eager to get outside and be active. So why not do it with a kite this year?"

We purchased this cute little pack of 6 white kites that we could decorate to our hearts content. Surprisingly there wasn't much to choose from if you wanted a blank canvas to create on but after a little bit of searching we found exactly what we were looking for. Luckily for us these were perfect. It came with markers, however, we are faithful to our Posca Paint Pens as you are chose to use those instead. The kites also came with the rods to create the kite structure, the string to fly it high and cute ribbon tassels at the end of each kite.

We love that one of our little ladies designed a kite around our Tuesday on Jasmine logo! How perfect is that?! This logo was beautifully crafted by one of our own Jasmine mommas. She is so very talented.

Take a look at some of the fun designs that we crafted onto our kites. We have volleyballs, smiley faces and rainbows! Let your creativity FLY with your designs. Anything goes!

This spring has been super weird for us here in PA. Sunny and 70 one day then cold rainy and 40 the next day. It has been flip flopping like that pretty much the whole month of April and we are seriously ready for the warm sunshine to stay. So when the sun popped out and there was still a breeze in the air we knew it was best to get these babies created so we could take them out and fly them.

Some important tricks to flying a kite:

  • Avoid power lines and nearby trees.

  • To get your kite in the air, simply hold the line in one hand, hold the kite up in the other, let the wind catch the kite, and then let go. With the right kite and the right wind, you shouldn't have to run.

After getting out there and trying our kites we probably could have used just a bit more wind to really see them soar, however we were able to get them up and were pleasantly surprised that they worked quite well for the price.

We take an annual trip to Topsail Beach, North Carolina and you can see all the fun things we did last year on our Top Ten things to do with kids in Topsail post! These kites will be the most perfect addition for our kiddos to craft and then take out on the beach! We can just imagine all the fun designs they can do on the kites while there, all beach themed of course. We like to create a welcome to the beach gift station for the kiddos to have all tools they need while they are there to have fun, be creative and engage their little minds and hearts!

We hope you use what time you have left this month of April and get out and fly a kite. Whether you are a beginner like us, or a seasoned pro we promise you will have fun and get that feeling of no cares in the world, peace for a moment or two.

Happy National Kite Month!
